Here at Lamine Boer Goats, we started out like many others have in the goat business. You know, bought one goat and then another and then another....... Eventually, we arrived at the boer goat purchase and most of the beginning herd left except for the pets like Lilly.
Now for the last two years we have been working to not only to improve our herd quality but our knowledge base. Like most people out there we have learned most everything the hard and expensive way. We still feel there is alot to learn but we are finding good information can be aquired from many of the contact we've made along the way.
Our boer herd started with one non-registered doe and an investment in 6 registered halfbloods. I thought: buy bred does, kid them, sell the whole bunch and pocket the money. Well, we went on to buy a 15/16 buck and a 3/4 doe, started kidding, sold the buck, bought a Tri-Quest fullblood buck, fullblood does from Vince Cummings, percentages from Evelyn Brinlee, and, and, and......
See how money in the pocket turned into an obsession and a part of life. Some around me say they never knew anybody to get rich off goats but hey, we like what we have and do. Oh, as for those fortune critics, they haven't become rich off their jobs or ventures either. I guess we are more motivated now to improve our herds quality than make a profit as is most beginnings.
